You may, at one point or another, find yourself needing to edit a PDF file, especially when you don't have the source file from which the PDF document was created. We have compiled a list of some of the best freeware to help you edit your PDF files.

Adobe Acrobat Reader

Adobe Acrobat Reader is a software that allows you to print, view, and annotate PDF documents. You can open PDF files and modify their content, including manipulating diagrams, spreadsheets, videos, emails, and more. The latest version of the software allows you to add comments to a PDF document and share this comment with other potential users. Guest users have access to several tools, allowing them to take notes, highlight text, add signatures, and more.

LibreOffice

LibreOffice is a complete office suite with the following features: vector graphics, word processing, spreadsheets, mathematical formulas, and more. Once your file is saved in the correct format, you can open it with any LibreOffice application. You will have access to drawing tools, text, printing, and many more. This software suite is based on the OpenOfficerg suite.

Foxit Reader

Foxit Reader allows you to add comments or notes to your PDF files. As with Adobe Acrobat Reader, you have several tools at your disposal, including underlining, highlighting, comment insertion, and note-taking. Foxit Reader also allows you to add media — like videos, photos, and links — to your PDF documents.

InkScape

InkScape is a vector drawing software (i freehand, CAD). InkScape allows you to save your project in the following formats: CSS, XML, and SVG. It is also possible to create web pages from your files. The software can import images to EPS, JPEG, PostScript, PNG, and TIFF.

PDFelement

PDFelement is a software created to help you edit and manage your PDF files. You can create PDF documents from scanned files and even render your text searchable and modifiable. You can also annotate, sign, and convert your documents.

If you would prefer not to download software and to edit your PDF files online, there are several websites designed to help you do just that. Some of the most well known ones include PDF Escape, Sejda PDF Editor, and PDF Zorro.
